Our Story

Lighting is one of the most important parts of a space — and one of the last things people think about.

People will spend months choosing kitchens, flooring, paint colours and furniture. Then somewhere near the end of the project someone asks, "What lights do you want?"

That's usually where we come in.

In fact, many of our customers say the same thing afterwards: "We wish we'd come here earlier."

Lighting Homes for Decades

Dubbo Lighting Centre has been helping homes and businesses across the Central West get their lighting right for decades. We carry a large range of decorative lighting, ceiling fans and architectural fittings, but what we really do is help people make good decisions about how lighting works in their space.

Some customers walk in with detailed plans and a very clear idea of what they want. Others arrive with a photo on their phone and say something like, "We want it to feel a bit like this." Both approaches work for us.

Lighting can feel surprisingly complicated. There are hundreds of fittings to choose from, and small details like brightness, beam angles, colour temperature and placement can completely change the result. Most electricians are excellent at installing lighting. We spend our time thinking about how it should look and feel once it's switched on.

It's a vastly different job.

Meet Matt and Emma

Matt and Emma McKay have called Dubbo home since 2012, and purchased Dubbo Lighting Centre in 2023.

Matt is a licensed electrician who grew up on a farm near Warren and completed his apprenticeship in Dubbo before running his own electrical business, which means he understands lighting from both sides: how it gets installed, and how it should perform. Emma’s  background is in administration and project management; she has a keen eye for detail and a genuine love of good design.

Between them, they're exactly the kind of people you want helping you make decisions about your space.

Bringing the right light to your spaces

Whether you're building a new home, renovating, fitting out a business, or simply updating a few tired lights, our goal is the same: to help you create lighting that works properly and still feels right years later.

Because when lighting is done well, you don't necessarily notice the lights themselves.

You just notice how good the space feels.
